Pan Caliente: Junior Mesa's laid-back sounds

Jose Galvan shares the latest from rising Bakersfield-based artist Junior Mesa.

For today’s Pan Caliente, we jump on the love song, gravy train that SoCal millennials like Cuco & Katzu Ozo are popularizing. Vamonos pa’ Bakersfield, where the soulful songs of Junior Mesa distract from the fact that this is the same town that spawned the likes of nü metal band Korn.

Junior Mesa recently released his first single “All Or Nothing” on Nice Life Recordings, which came my way via a simple email. And I have not been able to stop playing it on my Sunday program. His EP Peace is slated for release on November 1st, and we’ve got the premiere of his first video single.

"3 AM" features the same laid-back sound that hooked me on “All Or Nothing” and expands on it with a dreamlike cosplay video about a bard who is trying to rescue a fair maiden.

The multi-instrumentalist will be live at The Hi-Hat on October 24th, where you can catch songs from his forthcoming release.
